This is an welcome blast from the past techno lovers! You may remember this Coxy mix which featured on a CD given away with Mixmag in 2007. It’s a recording taken from that lovely Space Ibiza terrace and it still sounds as damn fine today as it did all them seven years ago (ok it’s not thaaat long ago but still!). I remember getting this mix and listening to it religiously whilst getting ready for nights out, so it brings back lots of happy memories of dancing round my bedroom with a few cans of stella on the go. It’s packed with loads of poppin’ tunes and it’s totally infectious. Mixmag have re-released the mix on iTunes so you can now purchase it and host your own bedroom-dancing-stella-drinking-session! And you can also stream below to see you through your Friday…enjoy.
This was my second trip out to the White Isle this year, but this time only for two nights, and possibly the two best successive nights for techno on the island: ENTER. and Music On. Both parties are only three years old but have contributed to the increase in technos popularity on Ibiza along with Sven Vath’s long standing and impeccable Cocoon on Monday nights, so expectations were high!
We kicked off with Richie Hawtin’s ENTER. (mustn’t forget the obligatory full stop!!) at Space which was in its 11th week. The party starts in the Sake. Bar, where Richie himself serves punters sake cocktails to world class headliners (check out our photo with the man himself below!). This week it was a double bill of live acts from the Minus cohort; Gaiser and Matador. My advice, get there early, as the headliners for Sake. bar start at 10pm, it’s basically a mini pre-party. On to Space and the main floor hosted Dubfire and Richie Hawtin, both of whom destroyed the dance floor with their signature heavy, dismantled techno. Hawtin in particular seemed to excel, playing at a standard I hadn’t heard for a while. We also found time to head over to the Terrace to catch Nina Kraviz play one of her sensationally exploratory sets. But, it is worth having a good roam, as the bill posters say, ‘Explore. Discover.’ (more full stops!) because there are all sorts of genuinely exciting things going on off the dance floor too. Check out the Mind. Room for some experimental and ambient electronica or, go and check out Ean Golden’s (of DJ Techtools fame) interactive table where you can collaborate with others to control individual loops of music and experience other music technologies.
ENTER. uses the free roaming feel of Space to excellent advantage and feels slick and polished without being too in your face or pushy. It’s great to see Hawtin himself get so involved too, from hanging out in the Mind. room, to serving sake. Hats off to the ENTER. team for all the thought and hard work that has gone into this seriously good party.
The following night was Music On. I’ve been meaning to go to Marco Carola’s Amnesia party for a while now (and even experienced a mild melt down earlier this year when I was unable to go because of a poorly timed return flight home!) so I was really glad to finally make it. My previous experience of Amnesia is exclusively limited to the awesome Cocoon Monday nights so having the headliner play the clubs huge Terrace room was a new experience. Dancing in the morning sun to Carola was great fun and the crowd were really getting into it. But, my biggest revelation was the line-up in the Club room. Having heard little of Carlo Leo and nothing of Monika Kruse I was totally blow away by their sets (and, as a massive fan of Untold’s Hemlock Imprint, was sufficiently ecstatic when Carlo Leo dropped Randomer’s gruesome dance floor smasher ‘Bring’!). Both brought a no-nonsense techno edge to the night which was infectious to the point of pandemic, with sharpened hats and huge kicks being very much the order of the night. What I have to admire about Carola’s party more than anything, is the simplicity. Unlike ENTER., Music On gets straight to business and is the perfect party to get lost on the dance floor at.
ENTER. and Music On are two very different but excellent parties which I have added to my list for next year’s season. Check them out if you haven’t already!
Finally, I’d like to give a shout out to the ENTER. team who were excellent hosts, you know who you are. 😉

Our Monday night visit to Amnesia for Cocoon is now a well established Ibiza ritual. We rocked up this year after spending a beautiful day at our friends wedding, full of prosecco and warm lovey vibes (we had of course changed into suitable rave gear). The super club was filling up fast as we arrived at 12.30am and Franco Cinelli had the terrace shimmying and warming up for a night of non-stop dancing. This year Luciano’s Origins party has taken over the terrace giving it a little added Swiss bounce.
At 2am Mr Vath took to the decks. As always, Sven delivered driving, party techno, full of energy and packed with choice cuts; that man must have one of the best record collections going. We popped over to the terrace to catch some Luciano and have a spin, but the lure of the pounding sound system of room 1 proved too much and we spent the rest of the night glued to the middle of the dance floor, dancing our hearts out. At 7.45am Sven waved us goodbye, the music stopped and we were ushered out the club into the Ibiza sunshine, happy with our techno fill.
Cocoon Ibiza never disappoints! Best techno party in the world….? Probably.
These were our tracks of the night…
Thanks for having us along!

Right, that’s enough excitement for now. We’ll be bringing you more Ibiza news as we get it! Get booking those flights!
This week I’ve started my bikini diet and taken up running, which can only mean one thing…the Ibiza 2014 season is nearly here! The club opening parties start happening towards the end of May with the club nights kicking off from June onwards. The season will keep dancing until September/early-October. So what’s in store for us party-lovers this year…will the old favourites be back? Will there be any new nights to get excited about? Will there be any surprises?
Here’s what we know so far:
Cocoon will reign on Mondays at Amnesia again!
One of the best fiestas on the isle is celebrating 15 years in Ibiza! The opening party will be on 2nd June and Sven et al will be pumping out energetic techno every Monday until 29th September. This one’s a must do.
…and Luciano’s going to be there too
Island favourite Luciano is planning an eight week takeover of Cocoon entitled ‘Origins’ taking full control of the terrace each week and getting his mitts on the main room twice. He’s also continuing his ‘Luciano and Friends’ residency but moving it from Ushuaia to the Amnesia-owned Cova Santa on Wednesdays 3pm til 6am – dates TBC.
Sankeys is the home of the underground…
Now in it’s third year Sankey’s Ibiza has established itself as the most underground and grimy club you’ll find on the island. The club opening party will take place over two nights on 21st and 22nd May. Danny Tenaglia, Steve Lawler, Hot Since 82, Darius Syrossian will be some of the big names hitting the decks.
…and Duke Dumont will make it his home on Mondays
Every Monday from June 30th until September 1st the radio friendly Duke Dumont will be showcasing tunes from his newly minted Blasé Boys Club label.
Other Sankeys favourites are back too
Every night is party night (of course). CUFF (created by Amine Edge and DANCE) will be returning to Thursdays. Flying Circus (Audiofly and friends) are filling the Friday night spot and Steve Lawler’s VIVa Warriors will be taking over on Saturday’s once more.
Carl Cox will be attracting the biggest headliners to Space on Tuesdays
It’s gotta be Coxy on Tuesdays at Space. Last year he rebranded his night to ‘Music is Revolution’ and the name is here to stay. The techno legend attracted some very enviable line-ups last year and for 2014 he’s announced that he’ll be bopping his way through his longest season yet; 14 weeks from June 24th through September 23rd. Names like Pan-Pot, Adam Beyer and Mano Le Tough have already been confirmed. Drool.
We’ll be bringing you more news as it hits our inbox! In the meantime here are some other good sites to help you get planning (it’s definitely the best way to spend a boring Monday afternoon!):
Last week we posted about the first half of our antics on the white isle, so here’s what we made of the rest of our time in Ibiza…
FUSE – SANKEYS IBIZA – WEDNESDAY 11/9
Tropical rainstorms that decided to pour down most of Wednesday meant that we had to skip tINI & The Gang at Playa d’en Bossa beach, so instead we took to the bars and headed to Fuse which has been at Sankeys Ibiza every Wednesday of the season. The lineup featured Enzo Siragusa, Seb Zito & tINI and drew in the masses, packing out the basement. The vibe was jumpy with tINI and Enzo stealing the show. Jumping around behind the decks and full of energy, they infected the crowd with their feel good techy beats and passion for the music. This popular London institution has well and truly found itself a place on the island.
DIRTYBIRD CLOSING – SANKEYS IBIZA – THURSDAY 12/9
Being able to catch a closing party in Ibiza was a treat for us, particularly as we were a little bit early for the end of the season (most parties close towards the back end of September). The Dirtybird closing party had us rather excited with a lineup including Claude Vonstroke, Justin Martin, Eats Everything, Catz ‘n Dogs and Breach! As you’d imagine, Sankeys was packed to the rafters and the night went hard right until the end. Eats Everything was the highlight; his bassy sound drew in the masses and was followed by Justin Martin who kept the dancefloor moving, especially when he dropped his edit of Rachel Row’s ‘Follow The Step’ (featured in our July Kittentcast). Things got heavier as the night went on and the party continued on the dancefloor and behind the decks, with the Dirtybird boys stickin’ it till the end (even donning plastic chicken heads). If there’s one thing the crowd can do to show their appreciation for a top night it’s to do a sit down and that’s exactly what happened right near the end, with the whole dancefloor getting down on their knees to thank Dirtybird & Sankeys for one hell of a season.
ZOO PROJECT GALA NIGHT – THE ZOO PROJECT – SATURDAY 14/9
This was one of the parties we were seriously looking forward to and it’s safe to say we were not dissappointed. The Zoo Project has built on its strength of throwing regular parties at its super cool Ibiza location (an abandoned zoo!) as well as its festival success here in the UK. The line up of the Gala Night (Saturdays @ Ibiza) has grown since its earlier days and is pulling in some top DJ talent – whilst we were there we caught the almighty George Fitzgerald & Will Saul (the next party hosted Monika Kruze!). The party atmosphere is further enhanced with a whole load of fun extras such as dancers dressed as animals, people walking round with live snakes, face painting, massaging, chill out areas, a pool and the amazing face and body painting that’s on offer to unleash your inner animal.
We were really lucky to chat to George and Will whilst we were there and we even had a dance to their set on stage. This really was a highlight for us, dancing next to two of our favourite producers at a party they both hold with high regard on the Ibiza scene. We were even joined by wAFF and SCUBA. What a party – thanks Zoo Project!
CIRCO LOCO LIFESTYLE – DC10 – MONDAY 16/9
Our last night of parting on the island and what a way to do it – Circo Loco at DC10. This is a must for any Ibiza clubber as it offers a warehouse feel that’s so rare on the island and it always features one hefty line up – we caught Laura Jones, Maceo Plex, The Martinez Brothers and Carl Cox (and that’s just naming the highlights). Catching Maceo Plex is always something special and having listened to his recent set from Ibiza’s Space club, we were expecting big things. Boy did he deliver. What a way to close our Ibiza trip.
Until next year Ibiza….!
We visited the white isle twice this season to catch some of the opening and closing parties. Well the season is well and truly coming to an end so the closing parties are in full swing. We pick out our top three parties you need to finish the season with…
WE LOVE – SPACE – SUNDAY 29/9
The ‘We Love’ opening party was a particular Ibiza highlight for us (read our coverage here). The eclectic mix and fun festival vibe of this party makes it a necessary addition to any Ibiza clubbing itinerary.
With the season almost at an end, the closing parties are in full swing and We Love is hosting their closing bash on Sunday 29th September with one heck of a line up.
Fatboy Slim, 2manydjs, Groove Armada DJ Set, James Zabiela, Simian Mobile Disco live, Paul Woolford, Machinedrum live, Bicep, Agoria, Optimo (JG Wilkes), Blawan, PBR Streetgang, Craig Charles, Jonathan Ulysses, Phonica Simon, Mat Playford, Alfredo, Jason Bye, Jem Haynes Vs Ryan O Gorman, Marc Roberts, Ian C, Mo Funk, Dave Chambers, David Phillips & Friends, Jamie Fatneck Low, Andy Carroll
There’s a total of 35 artists performing which makes its super tricky to pick out who the hell we’d see, our pick would have to be Paul Woolford and Bicep though! Grab yer tickets here.
COCOON – AMNESIA – MONDAY 30/9
Cocoon is one of the best nights on the island (if not THE best) all thanks to Sven Vath and the line ups that he curates. We caught two of the Cocoon parties while on the island and wish we were there for the closing party to catch Sven Vath, Ricardo Villalobos, Raresh, Mathias Kaden, Ilario Alicante & Tobi Neumann. Tickets are on sale here.
SANKEYS – 24 HOURS OF ROMAN HEDONISM – TUESDAY 08/10
The intimate warehouse feel of Sankeys is rare to find on the island and it’s for that reason we hold the club with high regard. Well that and the unbelievable residencies (such as Viva Warriors, Dirtybird and Fuse) and the stellar line-ups they’ve put on.
As you’d expect from this party institution they’re closing out the season with a bang as their closing party is held over 24 hours, featuring some of the hottest DJ talent:
Steve Lawler, Skream, Darius Syrossian, DJ Sneak, Reboot, Andrea Oliva, Âme (live), Finnebassen, Miguel Campbell, Hector Couto, Detlef, Seb Zito b2b Rossko, Julian Perez, Antonio Piacquadio, Andy Baxter, BONES, Marino Canal, plus 6 more TBA
We wish we were there! Nab your tickets here.
VIVA WARRIORS – SANKEYS IBIZA – SUNDAY 8/9
Steve Lawler has taken over Sundays at Sankeys with his Viva Warriors residency. Word on the island is that this is one of the best (if not THE best night that Sankeys has to offer). This was pretty evident from the moment we arrived, as the club was heaving and the busiest that workers had seen it for the whole season! It was our first visit to the club and we had big expectations given the success of the legendary Manchester warehouse. Having closed the Manchester venue to focus efforts on the Ibiza club, Sankeys has well and truly developed a strong presence in its third year on the island and sets itself apart from the super clubs with low ceiling and dim lights, bringing a refreshing intimate and underground feel to the island.
Kicking things off when we arrived was Sante who was warming the party up nicely. Steve Lawler was up next and well and truly got the party started with jumping house vibes. The basement was packed and there was little the air con could do to stop it turning into one hot and sweaty party. Lawler well and truly owned the crowd serving drop after drop after drop. We had one hell of a dance. Closing things off was Darius Syrossian who continued the party vibe well past the 6:30am finish, wrapping things up nicely with the chilled and progressive anthem ‘Time’ from Pachanga Boys. An Ibiza highlight (so far) for us!
COCOON – AMNESIA – MONDAY 9/9
An Ibiza rite of passage, Cocoon is a must do. Sven Vaths legendary brand draws in the crowds for his residency at the super club. Split between the main room and the legendary Amnesia terrace were Marcel Dettman, Dixon, Sven Vath and Loco Dice. This in itself proved tricky in trying to decide who to see. We caught Dettman in the main room to begin with, who’s strong presence behind the decks had the crowd well and truly focused on his effortless transitions. It was refreshing to watch a DJ take on mixes without headphones… a real demonstration of Dettmans talent and passion for the music he loves. Sven Vath had to be the highlight of the night for us; mixing vinyl tracks with the effort and skill of a digital DJ, you could see why he’s earned his DJ stripes. The crowd were worshiping him like a god, especially as he regularly teased by showcasing the next vinyl track above his head before slamming on the decks. When he dropped Ten Walls ‘Gotham’ we were very happy kittens indeed. Of course we can’t finish without mentioning Loco Dice on the terrace. What a party. A packed out terrace and tonnes of tech house that carried on well past 8am with the sun shining through the ceiling. That’s why Cocoon is a MUST.
CARL COX: THE PARTY UNITES – SPACE – TUESDAY 10/9
Needless to say with a line up starring Carl Cox and Adam Beyer we were very excited indeed. We arrived to catch Drumcode boss Bayer drop some heavy techno in the Main Room. Having visited Space before we had never seen it so busy…the crowd was brimming way past the dance floor and right to the back of the room. With that lineup it’s no surprise really. We nipped to the terrace quickly to catch a glimpse of Fatboy Slim but found the progressive feel of his set a bit much for us, so quickly slipped upstairs where to our surprise (and delight) we caught Black Butter legend Kidnap Kid playing out some feel good garage house. Having been a fan of his production work we’ve been dying to catch him play live for a while now, so it was a welcomed treat. Of course we headed back down to the Main Room to catch the star of the show, Carl Cox. Keeping the crowd focused in the main room, Cox upped the tempo with some heavy techno, going hard well and truly to the end. Awesome.
We’re only half way through our trip and this lot is going to be hard to top!
Having smashed their debut residency at Sankeys Ibiza, Dirtybird is going out with a bang with their closing party this Thursday 12th September and we’ve got one pair of tickets to give away! Claude Vonstroke, Justin Martin, Eats Everything, Catz ‘n Dogs, Breach, J Phlip and Leroy Peppers make this one helluva line up!
So if you’re in Ibiza this Thursday and love Dirtybird, enter our competition and you could be the lucky winner of a pair of tickets! All you need to do is like our facebook post promoting the competition and we’ll announce a winner from random Wednesday 11th. Good luck!
Tickets for the Dirtybird Closing Party are still on sale and you can grab ‘em here.
You know you’re gonna hear this…
