We chat to Sincopat’s main man AFFKT. An artist who has had a storming year and is a firm TTK favourite…
It’s been such a great year for you, as an artist, and for your label Sincopat! Let’s start with your album ‘Son of A Thousand Sounds’ – it’s your second album. How would you say your sound has developed since your first album?
I feel ‘Son Of A Thousand Sounds’ is much more a personal album than ‘Punto 0’ that was a conceptual project in the search of the roots.
My sound has become more eclectic and open-minded along all this years but at the same time I have much more clear where I want to go with my music technically and conceptually.
I took so many different directions in my career and now I understand it is all connected and ‘Sound Of A Thousand Sounds’ is the best example.
The ‘Son of A Thousand Sounds Remixed’ releases are super. We’ve especially love David Seaman’s remix of ‘Between Us’ – we’ve been dancing to it at TTK HQ this afternoon. How did you go about picking who would remix which track?
I wanted to have a wide and eclectic selection of remixers also I wanted to have friends involved who would really enjoy remixing the songs, Dave´s remix is amazing, he is a good friend I am a super glad he joined for the album remixed.
We also have remixes from Dosem, Smash TV, Pezzner, Villanova, Kruse & Nuernberg, Habischman, Squire, Paul Ursin, Brunneto, M.in, Fernando Lagreca, Elojet, Mattia Pompeo, Audio Junkies, Danny Serrano and Wavekiki.
As we head towards the end of 2016, is there a particular highlight of the year?
When I look back to this year I have the feeling it was like 5 years in one, I have being able to do so much things.
There were different highlights for the different projects I am involved, like AFFKT having time to finish my second album and put so much love and work to release it as I wanted is without a doubt my highlight.
As sound engineer seeing the mastering & mixing company I founded ‘Pobla’ grow so much and become one of the most respected in the business, makes me feel good after so much work.
And about Sincopat, it is hard to choose a highlight, every single release was a bit of it.
What are your goals for 2017?
First goal is having my new live set up ready. Also having more time to make music, learning new things and evolving my sound as much as possible.
We really love the Sincopat artwork. The piece for ‘Son of A Thousand Sounds’ is insanely cool. Can you tell us more?
Glad that you like it! The Japanese illustrator Junya Matsuyama did such a special work here. He has been doing the Sincopat covers for a while and I thought he was the right one to make the eclectic and colourist story of the album in images.
We’re heading to your hometown of Valencia early next year. What are your top recommendations for drinking, dancing and enjoying the city?
You will like Valencia for sure, is a really nice city to live and most of the time we have good weather.
Nowadays we have a healthy clubbing scene after few years of not much happening, you have some great bigger clubs like Barraca, Fayer, or La 3 and more intimate little clubs like Wateke, Miniclub, Gordo…
You have really nice restaurants and places to have a drink in ‘Ruzafa’ or ‘El Carmen’.
Also Science city is a futuristic part of Valencia is a place to visit with museums, opera and impressive arquitecture.
Any plans to bring a Sincopat party to London soon? We’d come!
Hopefully soon, we just come from a 2 Sincopat nights, in Beirut and Valencia and we had so much fun.
Label has grow much during last year, the brand is stronger and we are doing the label nights more regularly, so that’s something we will continue working next year.
Finally, the questions we ask everyone, what would you do as a techno kitten for the day?
I would probably be doing this…
Hehe, great answer. Thanks for chatting with us AFFKT.
