So tell us about La Montagne, what’s it all about….?
The original aim of La Montagne was to create a mixture between multiple brands that we thought worked fantastically. First of all we follow and keep up to date with Youtube channels such as Majestic Casual, High On Tracks and Waves Paradise. We thought this was a really cool concept but have noticed how we could expand it. Currently we have a Youtube channel which is gradually gaining a following but we have some massive ideas for the future which are currently top secret. I suppose we could leak a little with you, three names…The Boiler Room, Point Blank Music, Soulection; we will leave the rest to your beautifully creative minds! We launched our Free Music Friday project back in November which was inspired by Annie Mac Present’s. We really like the concept of what she does but thought we give it our own touch; her page is very up-beat in your face music whereas we love music with quite a chilled, kicked back vibe to it. Every Friday we introduce you to a new artist with a serious talent and passion for their music. We have just launched our pre release for clothing which you can order via our website. We are also launching La Montagne Records. We have work on the way from Babel, Tydes, Dfendr, Sculpture and a brand new artist Beaute, who will be releasing his first ever song via Free Music Friday in one of the coming weeks so stay tuned, stay tuned. Overall our aim is to provide people with quality products wether it be music or fashion at a highly affordable price. On a personal level we have had enough of being overcharged for poor quality products and we believe that a large group of people will agree with us. We are not about massive profits but more enjoyment and the coming together of people.
We first got to know about La Montagne Music via your Free Music Fridays. How do you source your tracks for that?
At first the project was actually really hard to launch because being an unknown brand it was difficult to get artists on board. We started off by going through Soundcloud and hunting out some of the best up and coming talent we could find. We then dropped them a cheeky message saying that we would love them to work with us and have a certain date free for them to release a track if they were interested. We couldn’t believe it when we got replies from the artists we did as we adore their work and now we even have a few of those artists signed to our forthcoming record label. We have got to know all the artists on a personal level which makes the experience even more enjoyable. We personally love the project, it is only in its early stages but we think it will be going a long way in 2014.
You recently launched a clothing line…describe your style?
Yes we did, it is awesome! It has always been a dream to drop a clothing line so we are really excited to share what we have with you. We would describe ourselves as an everyday clothing brand that can be worn for multiple needs. We aim to produce high quality minimal fashion with an affordable price tag. We are similar to the likes of Norse Projects, Our Legacy and Penfield for quality but with a price tag closer to that of Topman! We like simple beautifully designed fashion that provides you with high levels of comfort and makes you look great.
Who/what influences and inspires you?
We have a crazy amount of inspiration for our brand ranging from Youtube channels to fashion brands. We really like the work of some of the names mentioned so far plus the likes of Dynmk, Heed The Sound, Pannotia, Delicate Musiq, The Techno Kittens, Dred Collective, Trnscndnt, Hypetrack, Mixmag, Oi Polloi, Next, YMC, APC and so many more! We love staying up to date with what is happening within the music and fashion scene as we feel it helps bring you a much higher quality brand in the long run.
Do you have any music tip offs for 2014?
In 2014 we think the ones to watch are going to be; Babel, he has been producing for just three months and is probably one of our favourite artists right now, and Pyxis who featured on Free Music Friday, his light airy sound leaves us speechless and wanting more. We are currently feeling Ghadimi quite a lot, his remixes are out of this world. Also look out for Beaute as he hasn’t released any music yet but we have heard exclusives and this guys production style is on point!
And finally of course, what would the La Montagne team do as techno kittens for the day?
If we were Techno kittens for the day we take a crazy amount of catnip, go to the local supermarket and steel all of the milk in one massive milk heist. It would go down in history alongside the great train robbery.
