Dirtybird invades London on the 28th September – Claude Vonstroke, Justin Martin, Catz n’ Dogz, Zombie Disco Squad and Kill Frenzy are all taking over for the Dirtybird Players Night at Fire.
Ahead of his appearance on the night, we caught up with London boy Zombie Disco Squad to see what tracks he’s digging and find out how the Zombie Disco Squad sound has evolved…
Zombie Disco Squad started off in London, so what does it mean to you when you’re playing here?
London is my home town and where I cut my teeth as a Dj. I love this city. I have been trying to leave it to live elsewhere for about 10 years (I feel a change of scenery would be good) but I have yet to find a city I prefer! It is always special to play here.
The lineup for the Dirtybird Players night is pretty tasty. You’ve had a few releases on this bassy label too, so what other DJs signed to Dirtybird are putting out some top tunes at the minute?
OOF. Hard question. I really love all the D.B. stuff, from the older minimal flavoured stuff to the new kids just joining. Claude Vonstroke’s new album is incredible and I just heard a fantastic new track from Ardlan. I love pretty much everyone on the label.
What’s your track of the summer so far & what bombs can we expect you to drop in your set for Dirtybird Players?
My track of the summer so far has been my new one on D.B.- it’s called ‘Hands’ and is out in October (shameless self promotion). Aside from that I have been hammering ‘Interracial Booty Calls’ by Jesse Perez (who is hosting room two at this night). I never know what I’m going to play before a night but it will be dirty – that much I promise.
You started off as a duo with Lucas Hunter – how has the Zomie Disco Squad sound evolved since? Have you been bringing more of your individual style to the sound and what releases have you got in store for us?
I would say that ZDS has evolved in the way it always has- it is influenced by what I’m listening to and ideas I get on the road. That’s kinda always been the case, Luke and I have very similar taste, I guess the only difference is it’s only my influences now.
I have a new EP out on DirtyBird in October (already being hammered by Jesse Rose, Claude Vonstroke and Heidi) (more shameless self promotion) and am currently finishing up some remixes for Riva Starr, Kry Wolf and one for Syncopat.
