Following on from the huge success of Powers Of Ten, Stephan Bodzin is back, bringing his fans even more techno goodness with a remix edition of the album. Released on his own Herzblut recordings, the track listing reads like a who’s who of the techno world; only a figurehead such as Bodzin could command such an A-list selection of remix artists – Maceo Plex , Coyu, Fur Coat, Pan-Pot, Marc Romboy, Extrawelt, Max Cooper, Dominik Eulberg and Nicolas Masseyeff are just a few of the artists that have remixed the albums signature tracks.
Zulu, Powers of Ten, Singularity and Birth are the tracks that stand out for me from the original release (back in June) so I’m pleased to see that they all feature on the remix album (some more than once as different artists take to remix duty). I’m never one to get too excited by a remix album as I feel that they detract from the artist’s original vision, however this album is an exception. It feels as though this album in an evolution; each track taking on a new, exciting form with every remix artist adding their own unique twist whilst retaining either subtle or core elements of the original tracks.
Maceo Plex’s & Shall Ocin’s twist on Bodzin’s title track opens things up with driving percussion and emotive synths; Coyu and Edu Imbernon’s take on ‘WIR’ injects raw, energising sounds that linger and drive the track; there’s a darker feel to the Fur Coat remix of ‘Singularity’ with subtle references to the original throughout; D-Nox & Beckers bring an emotional and euphoric feel to ‘Odysee’ with a punchy bass line at its core; Extrawelt’s take on ‘Blue Giant’ oscillates through octaves and chops up the melody, creating a bouncy edit; Dominik Eulberg’s remix is oozing with delicate melodies and a soft electronic sound; Nicolas Masseyeff’s remix of ‘Lila’ is upbeat with appreciated synths and flanged notes that tie in with the powerful driving elements of the original; there’s a dark, minimal side to Victor Ruiz’s edit of ‘Ix’, with a soaring bass that punches through; closing things off is the delicate take on ‘Birth’ by Super Flu with ethereal vocal chords, soft piano and squidgy stabs.
“Powers Of Ten” (Remixes) will be released on December 18th through Herzblut Recordings on triple vinyl and digital formats
