CLUB NIGHT REVIEW: NY DOUBLE SESH

kparty

New Years Eve is one of the biggest nights in the clubbing calendar and this year was no exception. You may have seen our post in December where we identified the hottest nights going down on NYE in London. Well we found it a tough choice but settled on the Krankbrothers party which was held at the Oval Space in East London. Kicking off the night and taking us into the new year was the mighty Andrew Weatherhall who played some nice progressive tracks including a beautiful number to take us into 2013 at midnight (the ID escapes us unfortunately).  Next up was techno princess Heidi who was our highlight of the night. Her passion and energy really infected the crowd. Matt Tolfrey followed and closed what was a brilliant night for good music. It was the first time we’d been to this East London venue and we loved it, it was perfect. That combined with the stellar lineup and great crowd made it a NYE  to remember.

We pulled ourselves together and geared up for another night of partying at the nofitstate NYD party at the Great Suffolk Street Car Park, South London. We got there a little after midnight and caught Tale Of Us, Thugfucker, Maxxi Soundsystem and Mulletover frontman Geddes. It was a great night but it was clear most people had hit it hard the night before as the arches didn’t seem as packed as they have been previously (they were rammed at the Drumcode Halloween party).

A great way to start the new year, but now a detox is in order….until the next night that grabs our fancy.

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT

NYE 2012

It’s NYE (as if you didn’t already know) and it’s the one night of the year where it’s ok to stay out until the sun comes up.  Tonight we’re partying on down at the Krankbrother’s NYE party where the wondrous Andrew WeatherallHeidi and Matt Tolfrey will be helping us welcome in 2013 with balloons, confetti – the works according to the brothers.

Happy New Year Y’all.  See you on the other side x

FRIDAY SET SELECTOR: FABRIC NYE

friday set selector

This Friday’s set selector is a special promo mix from the man behind legendary techno label Desolat – Martin Buttrich.  It’s a mix he’s whisked together ahead of his live show at our fave club Fabric this New Years Eve.  He’s included some reworks of his own cuts which who knows, he might play live on NYE.  50 minutes of some amazing minimal techno… as he explains:

“It’s a little mix with eight tracks – some remixes and own productions. I’ve made a few dub mixes of songs that do not exist like that and that I only normally perform live at gigs. So it is sort of special and exclusive. I wanted to do something different and not just end up queuing songs of mine one after each other. I hope fabric fans will like it!”

Fabric’s NYE party looks set to be a good one… a 12 hour party which features Craig Richards, Four Tet, Steffi, Laura Jones, Dave Clarke and Robert Hood to name a few.  Wow.  Grab ya tickets here.

Go Global!

This weekend The Techno Kittens made their way North to an airfield in Stratford Upon Avon.  Armed with tents, booze, baby wipes, and wellies, the destination was Global Gathering 2012.

Friday was definitely the night we were looking forward to the most as we skipped between tents catching the likes of Annie Mac, Jack Beats and TEED.  The highlight had to be the Visionquest tent where we spent most of the night, treated to performances from the foursome, with Seth Troxler really working up the crowd and creating an absolutely amazing atmosphere.  Catching Liverpool’s Lewis Boardman for the first time was also a highlight (as we had hoped in last week’s post) and having seen his name appear on the line up for Manchester’s Warehouse Project in the next couple of months, we will be sure to check him out again.

It’s fair to say that we didn’t get too much sleep on Saturday morning and recharged ourselves with cider and sausage rolls before heading back into the festival where we found ourselves diving in and out of even more tents than Friday, allowing us to see a whole range of DJ’s including Disclosure, George Fitzgerald, Maceo Plex, Maya Jane Coles and Heidi.

Those of you who followed us on twitter will have seen that we were absolutely loving James Zabiela’s set, particularly because of his enthusiasm, passion and technical wizadry bashing about on his ipad.  Jamie Jones started a little later than planned due to a technical hitch in the Global tent, but he was soon live and playing out to a packed crowd who were full of energy given the anticipation that had built.

We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend at Global Gathering; it was well organised, the tents were easily accessible & not overcrowded and the raving gods had blessed the weekend with glorious sunshine.  Combined with one of the best line ups we’ve seen for a British festival this year, Global 2012 was brilliant.  Roll on Global 2013
