Oooh I do love a bit of Tough Love. Hey you dirty lot…I mean Tough Love the hot-as-chips UK house/garage/deep/whajacallit act, not the sexual action! Since the London-based duo first caught my eye in 2012 I’ve been well feelin’ their tunage and loving every release. I love the way they work the current house sound with a 90’s garage edge.
They’ve got their own label ‘n all called ‘Get Twisted’ which puts out some deep dirrty releases and now it’s time for the head honchos’s to display their goods*. Fuck me* do the lads deliver! ‘Lonely Highway’ starts with a 90’s r’n’b sound that gets you grinding then goes in deep* and whacks you in the face* with a deliciously dark disco vibe. ‘Sweet Memories’ takes another well know r’n’b sample (originally recorded by some babe in the 70’s but c’mon we all know it from the Missy elliot track) and drops in the signature Tough Love baddass house sound yet subtly enough to keep it on the classy side of a rewerk with yummy melodies.
‘Love & Happiness’ wins us over with positive deep warm vibes; it’s the kind of track you wanna smooch to. A touch of jazzy-influenced percussion and well placed vocals stop it from fading into the background with all the other deep tracks out there. It’s the production quality that gives these boys the individuality, and they know when to drop a bassline…keep us waiting! ‘Are You Blind’ is classic house; four to the floor and those vocals – fresh as!
Basically Tough Love are pretty awesome. Follow them. Enjoy their tunes. Catch them live at a decent small venue before they are big headliners (if you’re not too late)!
