As our fifth birthday approaches we’re busy making the final preparations for our party on Friday 18th March and getting super excited to celebrate with you. We’ve got a cracking line up in store with Villette, GNTN, Benwaa and Krauss all set to make it one heck of a party. In the run up to the event we’d like to introduce you to each DJ so that you can get a better idea of what to expect from the 18th. First up, we introduce our resident DJ, Krauss…
Nicola and I are the humans behind The Techno Kittens, a blog we started five years ago with the purpose of being able to share the music that we love; it was basically a way to annoy our friends and share new music. Over the years our blog grew and so did our readership. We found ourselves being contacted by aspiring producers and DJs around the world and making contacts with promoters, clubs, big name DJs and PR companies in the underground scene.
We launched our mix series (the Kittencast) three years ago and since then we’ve published 34 guest mixes from various DJs around the globe covering genres such as house, bass, techno and garage. We’ve since honed our sound and we are now focussing on the dark and melodic side of techno as has been represented in our recent mixes from Aaryon, Villette, GNTN, KatrinKa, Copilco and just recently Valentin Ginies.
In fact, I was the first DJ to take to the decks and launch our Kittencast series. It’s funny listening back to see how my taste has evolved in that time (and I like to think my DJ skills have improved vastly since!). It’s representative of the blog too as the sound of the blog has changed over time. Nicola and I have a very similar taste in music – it’s actually kind of freaky how much we agree on music and the sound that we want the blog to represent. We’re lucky in that sense. I don’t think we’ve ever had a disagreement…yet!
Over the years I’ve published three Kittencasts, a guest mix for the Word of Mouth collective and I’ve DJ’d a couple of times for London techno night Warm Up – an opportunity that helped me hone my DJing skills and musical taste. Now we’re throwing our first ever party to celebrate five years of the blog and I’m really excited to play (my first club gig for 2 years).
My sound has really developed over the past few years and I’m a big fan of the melodic and euphoric side of techno – a sound you’ll pick up from my last couple of mixes (the latest of which is embedded below). I’m actually playing two slots; the warm up and closing – both providing an opportunity to play a completely different style. I’ve got some fantastic tracks (some unreleased) lined up already – can’t wait to play them on the 18th.
Hope to see you on the dance floor.
